The Catholic parish church of St. Martin in Habkirchen

The Church of St. Martin is a Catholic parish church in Habkirchen , a district of the municipality of Mandelbachtal , Saarpfalz-Kreis , Saarland . Saint Martin is the church patron . In the list of monuments of the Saarland, the church is a single monument listed.

history

The church was first mentioned in a document from 819. However, it is considered likely that the church is much older. This is supported by the election of the church patron St. Martin, who was a Merovingian - Franconian national saint.

Among the Imperial Count von der Leyen was nave rebuilt 1768th Today's chancel and side altars in the nave were created. In the choir of the old church building, the basement of the choir tower , one was sacristy decorated.

During the Second World War , the church building suffered severe damage during fighting in the winter of 1939/40 and again between December 1944 and March 1945. In the years after the war, reconstruction work began with the active participation of the Habkirchen residents. On April 18, 1948, the newly built church was inaugurated by the Speyer bishop Joseph Wendel . The tower was rebuilt from 1949 to 1950 under the direction of the architect Nau ( St. Ingbert ) and raised by 6 meters.

In 1962 a new sacristy was built. The church was restored in 2005, with the interior of the bell tower being rebuilt. In 2006 the former sacristy in the lower part of the bell tower was rebuilt. A "weekday chapel" was created.

Inside the church, the high altar draws attention. In it are Baroque figures of old equipment involved. A statue of the church patron St. Martin stands directly under the crown of the high altar, including a statue of Mary Queen of Heaven surrounded by angels . On the outside of the altar there are figures of saints: on the right side St. Wendelin , on the left St. Rochus . The figures that were in the former side altars (St. Mary, St. Joseph ) now stand on consoles in the chancel.

Tower and bells

The tower of the church belongs to the group of so-called "Hornbacher towers" and was raised for the first time around 1150. The basement of the tower formed the choir of the first church. A sacrament niche and a ribbed vault from the 14th century have been preserved in it. In addition, wall paintings in the tower, which also date from this time, were uncovered again.

In the tower there is a bell consisting of four bronze bells. They were cast in 1960 in the Otto Saarlouis bell foundry and have the following names:
