The Church of St. Nikolaus von Flüe or Brother Klaus Church is a Catholic parish church in Niedergailbach , a district of the community of Gersheim . The church patron is the Swiss saint of peace, Nikolaus von Flüe .

history

A church was first mentioned for Niedergailbach in 1320. In 1721 a new church was built, which was consecrated to St. Hubertus . This church was expanded in 1829-30, but was eventually destroyed in World War II. On May 17, 1953 the foundation stone was laid for today's church building, which was designed by the architect Wilhelm Schulte jun. was built. Local limestone was used as the building material . The inauguration of the church took place on August 28, 1954 and was carried out by the then Speyer bishop Isidor Markus Emanuel .

Furnishing

The painter and writer Richard Seewald ( Munich ) created a mural of the church patron and ceiling paintings in the choir room in 1954 . The furnishings also include a statue of Mary from the 18th century or the 1st quarter of the 19th century, which is listed as an individual monument in the Saarland's list of monuments .

The organ of the church was built in 1991 by Hugo Mayer Orgelbau ( Heusweiler ). The abrasive loading instrument that is on a loft is installed and a built-in game cabinet has, has 16 registers , spread over 2 manuals and pedal . The registers Holzflöte 8 ', Sifflet 2', Salicional 8 ', Vox coelestis 8' and Sub-bass 16 'were taken over from the previous organ. The exact origin of the work is not known, but it is likely to have been used in the 1960s. The playing and stop action is mechanical. The disposition is as follows:
