history

The church was built between 1801 and 1802 and initially served as a cemetery chapel. The parish was founded in 1893 by a large, testamentary gift from the Franco-German Baron Alexandre Louis Guillaume Jacomin de Malespine (1821-1893), from which the money for the building of the church later flowed. Between 1921 and 1923 the church was expanded to its present size and received a tower . The consecration of the enlarged church building in September 1923 was not carried out by the bishop of Speyer (although the parish of St. Wendelinus belongs to the diocese of Speyer ), but by the Mainz bishop Ludwig Maria Hugo , who comes from the local diocese and was pastor from 1911 to 1915 Bliesdalheim was. There is an inscription of thanks for Baron Jacomin de Malespine in the church.

The church was badly damaged during the Second World War . 1950-53 a restoration took place , whereby the war damage was repaired.

As part of an extensive interior renovation of the church, which was carried out from March 1997 to January 1998, the church received a new gallery and a new celebration altar . In addition, a larger sacristy was added and the outer structure received a new roof and new drainage on the outer walls. In the summer of 2002 the church tower was renovated. The renovation measures included the installation of new sound shutters in the tower and the installation of a new copper helmet . In addition, the church roof was re-covered and the church building was repainted.

Building description

The church building is a small baroque building with a three-sided choir closure . The tower, which has a copper-plated helmet, is attached to the side of the nave .

Furnishing

Inside the church there is a richly designed high altar with a statue of the church patron from the 18th century in the rocailles . The altar is said to come from the former Franciscan monastery in Homburg .

The celebration altar was designed in 1998 by the sculptor Helmut Schollenberger ( Speyer ) and executed by the company Omlor ( Bexbach ). In the same year, the Dalder company (Danstadt) designed 14 wood-carved Stations of the Cross , which are located on the side walls.
