Ibrahim Abu-Lughod
Ibrahim Abu-Lughod (born February 15, 1929 in Jaffa , † May 23, 2001 in Ramallah ) was a Palestinian-American political scientist and politician.
Abu-Lughod fled Palestine during the Nakba on May 3, 1948 with the last ship that left Jaffa for Beirut . He came to the United States via Nablus and Amman , where he studied at the University of Illinois . In 1957 he received his PhD in political science from Princeton University .
Abu-Lughod worked for UNESCO in Egypt for a few years , then returned to the USA and, after teaching at Smith College and McGill University, was appointed to the Chair of Political Science at Northwestern University in 1985 . He received US citizenship in 1975. In 1992 Abu-Lughod returned to Palestine.
Abu-Lughod was a long-time member of the Palestinian National Council .
