Ibram X. Kendi

Ibram X. Kendi (born Ibram H. Rogers in 1982 in Jamaica , Queens , New York City ) is an American racism researcher and author.

Life

Ibram H. Rogers studied journalism and African American studies at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (BA, 2004) and received his PhD in African American Studies from Temple University in 2010 . He was then initially employed as an Assistant Professor of African-American History at the University of Florida . Rogers married in Jamaica, New York in 2013 and has been called Kendi ever since . He changed his middle name from Henry to Xolani , Zulu for "peace".

Since August 2017, Kendi has been Professor of History and International Politics at the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) and the School of International Service (SIS) at the American University in Washington, DC He is the founding director of the American Anti-Racist Research and Policy Center University. In July 2020, Kendi moved to Boston University , where he also became director of the newly founded BU Center for Antiracist Research.

Kendi has published journal articles in The Journal of African American History , Journal of Social History , Journal of Black Studies and the Journal of African American Studies, among others .

Kendi has published four books so far (as of 2020). For the study Stamped from the Beginning: The Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America he received the non-fiction prize of the National Book Award in 2016 .
