I am the little Nienburgerin , also known under the title Nienburgerin and Kalenberger , is a folk song located in Nienburg / Weser . It has been recorded in song books since 1912 at the latest.

contents

In the folk song, the little Nienburg woman and the Calenberg farmer take turns singing about their clothes. In the past, such alternating chants often originated at national borders and have a folkloric meaning; they are referred to as neighborhood nuisances. The song is divided into eight stanzas.

The song belongs to a group of joke songs that have been handed down in many scenic variations since the beginning of the 19th century. What is appealing about the Nienburg version is that the small town dweller sings in standard German , the "Bur" in Low German . A similar variant has come down to us in Westphalia as a small Limburger .

reception

On the occasion of its 950th anniversary, the city of Nienburg announced a competition in 1975 for a monument to the central figure of the song. The winner was the design by the Herford- based sculptor Marianne Bleeke-Ehret , which the artist described as a "somewhat mysteriously veiled nude". Since the design of the clothing does not do justice to the woman described in the song, it was initially controversial. After securing funding through a donation campaign, the design was nevertheless executed as a bronze statue and erected in the pedestrian zone in 1979 (Lage) . The 1.65 m tall and four hundred pound sculpture has been one of the landmarks of the city of Nienburg ever since. As a symbol of the city of Nienburg, it is also part of the German Fairy Tale Route , which leads from Hanau via Nienburg to Bremen . Its counterpart, the “Calenberger Bur”, was immortalized as a bronze sculpture in the old town of Nienburg.

The traditional melody known today is played daily at 9:15 a.m., 12:15 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. by a carillon consisting of ten bells on the side of the Posthof, which the Rotary Club Nienburg-Neustadt donated in 1980.

From 1994 onwards, a “little girl from Nienburg” was elected annually to represent the city on various occasions together with representatives from politics, administration and business. One of the prerequisites for the election was that the candidate had clothing size 36 in order to fit into the Biedermeier costume sung in the song . The choice was last proven in 2011. Today it is no longer carried out because the young women were often unable to fulfill their representative duties due to professional or school training.
