I don't want to go back alone ( Portuguese original title: Eu Não Quero Voltar Sozinho ) is a Brazilian short film from 2010 by Daniel Ribeiro . In 2011 the film won the Iris Prize , an international award for gay and lesbian short films and has been awarded since 2007.

The short film is available on YouTube with subtitles in different languages ​​including English, French, Spanish, Turkish, Slovak, Russian, Italian, Hungarian, Estonian and Vietnamese. The German subtitles were provided by Marcel Weyers . In 2014, Ribeiro's feature film Today I Go Home Alone , which is based on the short film; the short film is also included on the German DVD edition.

The arrival of a new student at school changes Leonardo's life. The 15-year-old blind teenager feels jealousy from his best friend, Giovana, as he realizes his feelings towards his new boyfriend, Gabriel. Leo is brought home by Giovana every day. Gabriel accompanies them as he lives in the same direction as Leo. Gabriel is tutoring Leo in math, and Leo is teaching Gabriel some Braille . After Leo tells Giovana that he has fallen in love with Gabriel, she initially reacts disappointed and evasive. However, she promises to stop by Leo's after her grandmother's birthday party. Leo goes home alone and when someone enters his room, he thinks the person is Giovana. He pours out his heart to the person and does not know that in truth Gabriel is standing before him. When Leo mentions that he has fallen in love with Gabriel, Gabriel kisses him lightly on the mouth. He leaves Leo's room without revealing his identity. Giovana comes to see Leo later and apologizes for not making it earlier. Excited, Leo searches his room for Gabriel's sweater, which he had left with him the day before. After Giovana confirms that Gabriel's sweater is no longer in his room, Leo knows that it was Gabriel who kissed him and smiles.

The film was shot in São Paulo and had an estimated budget of 80,000 Brazilian reais (around 30,000 euros in 2010). Tess Amorim had previously acted in a film and set numerous animated films to music, including the role of Stephanie in the Portuguese version of LazyTown . In an interview, Guilherme Lobo said that Ribeiro gave the actors the opportunity to incorporate their own ideas. In the same interview, Fabio Audi said that they also interacted with actually blind people in order to get a feel for the film. The title song Beijo Roubado em Segredo (Eng. Secret Kiss ) was sung by Tatá Aeroplano and Juliano Polimeno, has a total length of 2:42 minutes and was released on February 27, 2011 on Bandcamp .

In December 2012, the film's official Twitter page announced that a feature film based on the short film would be produced. In September 2013, director Daniel Ribeiro announced that the film's final title would be Hoje Eu Quero Voltar Sozinho . The official English (and international) title of the film is The Way He Looks . The film was shown for the first time at the Berlinale on February 10, 2014, and it had its German cinema premiere on February 26, 2015 under the title Today I'm going home alone .
