Ichirō Fujisaki ( Japanese 藤 﨑 一郎 , Fujisaki Ichirō ; * 1947 ) is a Japanese diplomat and has been his country's ambassador to the United States since June 2008 .

Fujisaki first visited the United States as a schoolboy in the early 1960s. His father, Masato Fujisaki , was the Japanese Consul General in Seattle from 1960 to 1962 and the family lived in Magnolia District. In the early 1970s he studied for one year each at Brown University and Stanford University Graduate School . From 1987 to 1988 Fujisaki was a research associate at the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London . From 1991 to 1995 he was a lecturer in international relations at Sophia University in Tokyo .

During his diplomatic career, which he began in 1969, Fujisaki worked in Jakarta , in Paris at the OECD , and in London. From 1995 to 1999 he worked at the Japanese Embassy in Washington, DC .

Before his appointment as Japanese Ambassador to the United States, he was Deputy Representative of Japan from 2005 to 2008, with the rank of Ambassador, in Geneva to the United Nations and to the World Trade Organization (WTO). During his stay in Geneva, he also served as Chairman of the Executive Committee of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

Within the Japanese Foreign Ministry in Tokyo, Fujisaki held positions as Deputy General Director of the Asia Department and General Director of the North America Department. He was then appointed shingikan (position among the state secretaries ) in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During several G8 meetings, he accompanied the Japanese Prime Minister as a personal advisor. He is fluent in English and French .

Fujisaki is married and has two daughters who work as journalists in Japan. He is a cousin of the Japanese politician Takeaki Matsumoto .
