Ichirō Suzuki (guitarist)
Ichirō Suzuki ( Japanese 鈴木 一郎 , Suzuki Ichirō ; born May 9, 1948 in Kobe , Hyōgo Prefecture ) is a Japanese guitarist .
Life
Suzuki first studied piano and violin . In the 1960s he switched to the guitar and studied with Yasumasa Obara , a student of Regino Sáinz de la Maza and Andrés Segovia in Siena and Santiago de Compostela . He has lived in Europe ( Paris and Barcelona ) since 1970 , where he studied with Leo Brouwer , Oscar Ghiglia , Andrés Segovia and José Tomás . He was music director of the Palamós International Music Festival and founder of the Ichirō Suzuki Barcelona Guitar Festival.
The composer Tōru Takemitsu dedicated the piece To the Edge of Dream (premiered with the Orchester Philharmonique de Liège) to him in 1983 .
