Ida Jessen
Ida Jessen (born September 25, 1964 in Sønderjylland ) is a Danish writer who was awarded the Søren Gyldendal Prize in 2009.
Life
Ida Jessen grew up in Thyregod Sogn in Central Jutland . Her father, Peter Jessen, was a pastor there, and her mother, Gudrun, was a grammar school teacher for English and Latin in Ikast .
After attending school, Jessen studied literary history and communication studies at Aarhus University . After completing this degree in 1990 with a master's degree, she worked as a teacher and lecturer .
Before completing her studies, she made her literary debut in 1989 with the collection of short stories . In the following years she wrote a number of other novels and short stories for children and adults and has lived in Zealand since 1995 . She has also translated a number of youth and adult novels from Norwegian and English into Danish, such as novels by Lars Saabye Christensen and Karin Fossum .
For Det første jeg tænker på she received the Danske Bank Literature Prize endowed with 300,000 Danish kroner at the Bogforum in 2006 . In 2009 she was awarded the Søren Gyldendal Prize and in 2010 she received De Gyldne Laurbær . The historical novel En ny tid , published in 2015, was awarded the DR Novel Prize in 2016 and Doctor Bagges anagrammer received the Critic's Prize in 2017 .
Together with her mother, Gudrun Jessen, she translates works by the Canadian writer Alice Munro . Her mother also gives advice and helps with research for Ida Jessen's works, while the writer discusses literature with her father, as they often read the same books.
