The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Lusaka ( Latin Archidioecesis Lusakensis , English Archdiocese of Lusaka ) is an in Zambia situated Roman Catholic archdiocese , based in Lusaka .
history
Pope Pius XI founded the Apostolic Prefecture Broken Hill on July 14, 1927 from cession of the Apostolic Prefecture Zambezi . On June 13, 1946, it took the name of Lusaka Apostolic Prefecture .
With the Apostolic Constitution Si sedulis she was elevated to the Apostolic Vicariate on April 25, 1959 . With the bull Cum christiana fides on March 10, 1962 it was raised to the rank of metropolitan archbishopric.
It lost parts of its territory in favor of the following dioceses:
- May 25, 1936 to the Apostolic Prefecture of Victoria Falls ;
- July 1, 1937 to the Vicariate Apostolic Lwangwa ;
- January 8, 1938 to the Apostolic Prefecture of Ndola ;
- March 10, 1962 to the diocese of Monze ;
- October 29, 2011 to the Diocese of Kabwe .
