The Roman Catholic Diocese of Mpika ( Latin Dioecesis Mpikaënsis , English Diocese of Mpika ) is in Zambia situated Roman Catholic diocese based in Mpika .

history

The diocese Mpika was on May 23, 1933 by Pope Pius XI. established with the Apostolic Constitution Quae catholico from assignments of territory by the Apostolic Vicariates Nyassa and Bangueolo as Mission sui juris Lwangwa . On July 1, 1937, the Mission sui juris Lwangwa by Pius XI. with the Apostolic Constitution Enascentium Ecclesiarum raised to the Apostolic Vicariate. The Apostolic Vicariate Lwangwa was renamed on March 8, 1951 in Apostolic Vicariate Abercorn .

On April 25, 1959, the Apostolic Vicariate Abercorn was by Pope John XXIII. with the Apostolic Constitution Cum christiana fides raised to the diocese and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Lusaka as a suffragan . On June 12, 1967, the Diocese of Abercorn was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Kasama as a suffragan. The Diocese of Abercorn was renamed on November 22, 1967 in the Diocese of Mbala . On April 26, 1991 the diocese of Mbala was renamed the Diocese of Mbala-Mpika . The diocese Mbala-Mpika was renamed on September 9, 1994 in the diocese Mpika . On October 29, 2011, the Diocese of Mpika gave parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Kabwe .
