Emmanuel Milingo (born June 13, 1930 in Northern Rhodesia ) is a former Roman Catholic archbishop and exorcist .

Life

In 1958, Emmanuel Milingo was ordained a priest . He then was pastor in Chipata from 1963 to 1966 . In 1969 he was appointed by Pope Paul VI. appointed Archbishop of Lusaka ( Zambia ); he was then the youngest bishop in Africa. The episcopal ordination on August 1, 1969 was donated to him by Paul VI. self.

In 1983, Emmanuel Milingo had to give up the office of bishop after it became known that he was exorcising Mashawe spirits. In the same year he was transferred to Rome as Archbishop of the Curia. As a result, Milingo became very famous, especially in Italy, for its unconventional healing services. Not wanted in many dioceses in Italy, he often celebrated Holy Mass in parks. At the end of the 90s he organized healing services in Austria in the “Friends of Archbishop Milingo”.

In May 2001, at the age of 71, Milingo married Korean doctor Maria Sung at a mass wedding in New York . The marriage ceremony was carried out by the founder of the Unification Church , Sun Myung Moon . The wedding ceremony and the fact that a former archbishop had become a supporter of the Unification Church caused an international stir, especially since Milingo had followers in various countries. Milingo returned to the Roman Catholic Church on August 6, 2001 , but moved back in with his wife a few months later.

In 2006 he returned to the Catholic faith and into the care of the Church - among others at the urging of Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone . In the same year, however, he took up contact with the Unification Church and his wife again. All further attempts at mediation by the Vatican were unsuccessful. Rather, Milingo consecrated four married men in Washington DC in September 2006 without papal approval to be bishops. With that he sealed the break with the church. In response to this, on September 26, 2006, the Catholic Church established the excommunication of Milingos - latae sententiae .

On 17 December 2009 gave Holy See , the dismissal known Milingos from the clerical state.
