Adrian Mung'andu

Adrian Mung'andu (* 1920 in Kasisi , Lusaka , Zambia ; † June 25, 2007 in Lusaka, Zambia) was Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Lusaka from 1984 to 1996.

Life

Mung'andu attended elementary school in Kasisi, Lusaka, and the "Canisius Secondary School" in Chikuni in Southern Province . There he was trained as a teacher, made a degree in social sciences and a pastoral course in London and Kansas City .

In 1943 he entered the seminary of St. Dominic's Secondary in Chishawasha in Zimbabwe one. In 1950 he was ordained a priest . In the 1950s and early 1960s, Mung'andu served as a pastor and director of the Kasisi Boys School . In 1963 he became Vicar General of Lusaka, in 1969 he became a pastor in Livingstone .

Pope Paul VI appointed him Bishop of Livingstone in 1975, succeeding Timothy Phelim O'Shea ; he received the episcopal ordination of Archbishop Luciano Angeloni on February 9, 1975 . In 1984 he was named Archbishop of Lusaka and successor to Emmanuel Milingo by John Paul II . In 1996 his resignation was accepted for reasons of age.

Archbishop Mung'andu was popular in his diocese primarily for his faith, pastoral skills, and education. He spoke five Zambian languages.

He died at the Mina Medical Center in Lusaka.
