Heinrich Freiherr von Cocceji ( pronunciation: kok'tse: ji , * March 25, 1644 in Bremen ; † August 18, 1719 in Frankfurt (Oder) ) was professor of natural and international law at the universities in Heidelberg , Utrecht and Frankfurt (Oder ).

Heinrich Cocceji was a son of the city port clerk Heinrich Coch and Lucia Oldenburg, a sister of Heinrich Oldenburg . The marriage with Maria Salome Hougwart / Howard in 1673 resulted in three sons, including Samuel von Cocceji , President of the Supreme Court and since 1747 Grand Chancellor under Friedrich II , as well as Johann Gottfried von Cocceji , District President in Magdeburg.

After studying law from 1667 to 1669 in Leiden , 1670 in Oxford ( doctorate Dr. jur. Utr.) And study trips through England and France, Heinrich Cocceji came to Heidelberg in 1671 as an associate professor at the philosophical faculty (successor to Samuel von Pufendorf ). From 1690 Cocceji was a full professor in Frankfurt (Oder). Heinrich Cocceji was given the Prussian nobility on September 7, 1702 and Vienna was given the status of baron on March 3, 1713 .
