Idris Jones

Idris Jones (born April 2, 1943 ) was until 2009 Anglican Bishop of the Diocese of Glasgow and Galloway and the primate of the Scottish Episcopal Church .

Life

Jones studied at St David's University College in Lampeter and received a Bachelor of Arts in 1964 . Upon further study at the University of Edinburgh for diploma - theologians , he was in 1967 deacon and in 1968 priest ordained . Until 1970 he was a curate at the Anglican Congregation in Stafford . From 1970 to 1973 he was Precentor of St Paul's Cathedral in Dundee . After that he was Team Vicar at St Hugh's Church in Gosforth (Tyne and Wear) for seven years . In 1980 he became rector of the Montrose, Angus parish . Jones received a PhD from New York Theological Seminary in 1984 . In 1989 he became Anglican Chaplain at Dundee University and Rector of Invergowrie . From 1992 to 1998 he was Team Rector of the parishes in Ayr , Maybole and Girvan . 1998 Jones became the bishop for the diocese of Glasgow and Galloway ordained . On May 18, 2006, he was elected primate of the Scottish Episcopal Church by his fellow ministers, succeeding Bruce Cameron . In this election there was a tie between him and the other candidate, which was decided by lot; after that he was elected unanimously.
