Ignatius Shixwameni

Ignatius Nkotongo Shixwameni , mostly just Ignatius Shixwameni , (born September 4, 1966 in Utokota , South West Africa ) is a Namibian politician and party president of the opposition All People's Party (APP).

Shixwameni holds a Master of Arts degree from the University of Havana ( Cuba ). He began his political career as the student leader of the Namibia National Students Organization (NANSO) at the time of Namibia's independence. From 1987 to 1999 Shixwameni belonged to the SWAPO Youth League and from 1992 to 1997 he was on the central committee of the ruling SWAPO . In 1999 he was elected to the Namibian National Assembly before joining the opposition Congress of Democrats in 2000 .

In 2007 he turned his back on the Congress Democrats, along with 21 other party members. Shixwameni founded his own party the following year with the APP.

Shixwameni ran as a candidate in the 2009 , 2014 and 2019 presidential elections .
