Igor Gruppman

Igor Gruppman (born July 4, 1956 in Kiev ) is a violinist and conductor. Since 2003 he has been chief conductor of the Orchestra at Temple Square in Salt Lake City (Utah, USA). In May 2009 Igor Gruppman was appointed artistic director of the newly founded Mariinsky Stradivary Orchestra by Valery Gergiev . He is currently concertmaster of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra .

Life

Gruppman made his debut in the Kiev Philharmonic in 1967. He graduated from the Moscow Conservatory ; there he studied with Leonid Kogan and Mstislav Rostropovich . Jascha Heifetz was later his teacher at the USC School of Music in Los Angeles .

In 1979, Gruppman emigrated with his family to the United States , where he married Vesna Stefanovich-Gruppman , whom he met while studying in Moscow.

Igor Gruppman was concertmaster of the San Diego Symphony from 1988 to 1995. He was also concertmaster of the London Symphony Orchestra from 1995 to 1998. He was also Associate Conductor of the Florida Philharmonic Orchestra .

He and his wife won a Grammy Award in 1993 for the recording of Malcolm Arnold's Concerto for Two Violins op.77 .

Igor Gruppman and his wife taught at Brigham Young University from 1997 to 2003 . In 1997, Gruppman was guest concertmaster of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London.

He has also taught at the Idyllwild Arts Summer Program in California for twenty years in a row .

In 2003, the Gruppmans founded the Gruppman International Violin Institute with the aim of using new technologies such as Skype to teach students and pupils worldwide regardless of time and place.

In 2004 Igor Gruppman was appointed concertmaster of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra . Gruppman holds a professorship for violin at CODARTS , the Rotterdam Conservatory.
