Ihor Oleksijowytsch Dolhow ( Ukrainian Ігор Олексійович Долгов ; born June 6, 1957 in Slavuta , Ukrainian SSR ) is a Ukrainian diplomat .

Life

Dolhow studied at the Taras Shevchenko University in Kiev . He graduated in 1980 as a philologist and Ph.D. in linguistics . From 1980 to 1992 he worked as an assistant at the university in the field of Russian language and methodology of foreign language teaching.

In March 1992 he moved to the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and initially worked as the first secretary, then from March 1993 as a consultant in the information department. As early as April 1993, he became a deputy advisor in the cabinet of the Foreign Minister. Dolhow then went to the Ukrainian embassy in Finland as a consultant in September 1994 . In October 1997 he became deputy head of the department for political analysis and planning in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, initially acting until November. In December 2000 he took over the role of deputy head of the main foreign policy directorate of the Ukrainian presidential administration. This was followed by a position as director of the department for politics and security. At the same time he headed the Directorate for Political Analysis and Information.

In April 2002 he became the Ukrainian ambassador to Turkey until he returned to Ukraine in July 2004 as deputy foreign minister. In January 2006 he was sent as ambassador to Germany to the Ukrainian Embassy in Berlin . He then became Head of the Main Directorate for Foreign Policy in the Secretariat of the President of Ukraine in May 2008, until he became Ambassador at Large in the Information Policy Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in February 2009 . In July 2010 he became ambassador to Belgium and Luxembourg and permanent representative to NATO . He held this position until June 2015. After he was Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister with responsibility for European integration from 2015 to 2017, he took over as Ukrainian Ambassador to Georgia in February 2017 .

Dolhow also speaks English and French .
