Il coral

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Il Coral , in its second edition from 1987, is the official hymn book of the Engadine and Münstertal Evangelical Reformed parishes in the Graubünden regional church . The Coral is in use in all Engadine parishes with the exception of the purely German-speaking St. Moritz .

The 223 songs are written in the idioms Vallader and Puter .

The Coral was commissioned in 1977 by the Engiadina Bassa / Val Müstair colloquium (Lower Engadine and Münstertal). The new edition replaced the old one from 1922. The first Rhaeto-Romanic church hymn book by the Engadine reformer Ulrich Campell appeared as early as 1562 and was one of the first in Switzerland. The oldest church hymn book with sheet music from 1661 came from the Zuoz lawyer Lurainz Wietzel .

The best-known song in the Engadin is No. 15 , which is mainly sung at funerals : “Meis bun pastur” (German: “My good shepherd”), a setting of the 23rd Psalm based on the melody “ I pray to the power of love ”.
