Ildefons Civil i Castellví
Ildefons Civil i Castellví , real name Aleix Civil i Castellví , OSB , (born January 11, 1889 in Molins de Rei , † July 25, 1936 in Santa Creu d'Olorda (hermitage, administrative to Sarrià-Sant Gervasi , Barcelona )) was a Catalan church musician and non-priestly Benedictine monk of the Montserrat monastery . He worked there as the organist of the monastery and violin teacher in the Escola de Montserrat . Ildefons Civil was a victim of religious persecution at the beginning of the Spanish Civil War in July 1936 . In 2013 he was selected as one of 522 martyrs in the so-called Beatificació de Tarragona beatified .
life and work
Ildefons Civil joined the Escola de Montserrat at the age of eight . Here he showed a very good talent for music and the humanities. He first studied music in Barcelona and continued these studies from 1906 to 1911 with the Belgian violinist and composer Armand Parent at the Schola Cantorum in Paris. He introduced the violin teaching method of his teacher at the Escola de Montserrat. One of his music students was Gregori Estrada .
Ildefons Civil was the son of the musician Miquel Civil i Bogunyà. His brothers were the organist, pianist, composer and Benedictine monk from the Montserrat monastery, Francesc Civil i Castellví and the composer and organist Josep Civil i Castellví .
