life and work

Vera-Lotte Boecker studied philosophy and literature at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin as well as singing at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler and the Universität der Künste Berlin , where she graduated with honors in 2013. After that she was engaged at the Opera Studio of the Royal Opera in Copenhagen . She attended master classes with Siegfried Jerusalem and Mirella Freni . In 2014 she took on the leading role of Agnès in Benjamin's Written on Skin at the Landestheater Detmold . For the design of this role she was nominated by the opera world as best young singer and awarded the theater prize of the city of Detmold. From 2014 to 2017 Vera-Lotte Böcker was part of the ensemble of the Nationaltheater Mannheim, after which she was engaged by Artistic Director Barrie Kosky for three seasons at the Komische Oper Berlin . In both houses she was able to take on a wide range of tasks, in comic operas (as Adina and Rosina) as well as in operettas and musicals, but also in the dramatic field. In May 2015 she took on the role of Iris in the world premiere of Lucia Ronchetti's Esame di Mezzanotte in Mannheim.

Already in the Mannheim years she was engaged as a guest at a number of renowned theaters. In June 2016 she embodied Princesse Eudoxie in a new production of the Jewess von Halévy at the Munich Opera Festival - as partner of Roberto Alagna (Éléazar) and Aleksandra Kurzak (Rachel). It was directed by Calixto Bieito , and it was conducted by Bertrand de Billy . This production was then incorporated into the repertoire of the Bavarian State Opera . In Stuttgart and at the Salzburg Festival , she appeared in an opera by Hans Werner Henze , in Bozen and at the Moscow Bolshoi Theater she performed Agnès in Written on Skin . The spectacular Magic Flute production by Suzanne Andrade and Barrie Kosky at the Komische Oper in Berlin took her on guest tours to the Hamburg State Opera , to Beijing, Tokyo, Paris and New York. She sang the Pamina.

Vera-Lotte Boecker has worked with well-known conductors, including Rubén Dubrovsky , Dan Ettinger , Rossen Gergov , Wladimir Jurowski , Cornelius Meister , Kent Nagano , Frank Ollu , Alexander Soddy and Erich Wächter . The most important directors in whose new productions she took on leading roles include - besides Koskie - Achim Freyer , Stefan Herheim , Frank Hilbrich , Stephan Kimmig , Peter Konwitschny , Katie Mitchell , Nicola Raab and Krzysztof Warlikowski . Wherever it appeared, it was able to gain approval from the public and the press. In Munich her "gleaming soprano" was praised as "sure of height and coloratura", in Paris "une grande maîtrise de son instrument" was noted, great mastery in the mastery of her instrument, and Die Zeit limited its criticism of Boecker's portrayal of Lydia Pawloska in Weinberger's rediscovered operetta Spring Storms in one word: "Flawless".

The singer also has a number of concert appearances. In the Kulturpalast Dresden she took on the soprano solo in Carl Orff's Carmina Burana . She sang works by Goldmann and Henze in a scholarship concert of the Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic . As a soprano soloist in the Dresden Philharmonic under Michael Sanderling , she recorded Beethoven's Ninth . A recital in the Gläserne Saal of the Wiener Musikverein has been announced for January 2021 , in which the singer - accompanied by Sarah Tysman on the piano - will juxtapose songs by Nazi victim Viktor Ullmann with works by Kurt Weill, who was forced to emigrate .

In 2020, the new director Bogdan Roščić and the new music director Philippe Jordan signed her to the Vienna State Opera , where she will appear in the first class. Already in her first season in Vienna she can be seen and heard in three new productions, in Henze's Das verkehre Meer , as Micaëla in Carmen and in Monteverdi's L'incoronazione di Poppea .
