Krzysztof Warlikowski (born May 26, 1962 in Stettin ) is a Polish theater director . He is one of the most influential theater and opera directors in Poland.

Life

Warlikowski studied history , philosophy and theater studies in Kraków . There was also a study visit to Paris . He then began to study directing at the State Drama Academy in Cracow and learned from the Polish director Krystian Lupa , who also became internationally known for his Thomas Bernhard interpretations. Warlikowski got the opportunity to assist with European directing icons such as Peter Brook , Ingmar Bergman and Giorgio Strehler . He staged Pericles at Strehler's Piccolo Teatro di Milano .

Warlikowski works in Warsaw at the Teatr Rozmaitości , which causes a sensation with its productions by young European authors such as Sarah Kane and is one of the most popular theaters in Poland. Outside Poland, he worked at the Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord in Paris and at the theaters in Nice , Tel Aviv , Zagreb , Bonn , Amsterdam and Brussels . In Germany he worked at the Stuttgart State Theater , the Bavarian State Opera , the Hebbel Theater and the Haus der Berliner Festspiele .

Internationally he made a. a. with Cleansed by Sarah Kane , 2003 with Shakespeare's Der Sturm and in the same year with the Jewish drama Der Dybbuk nach An-ski (Schlomo Rappoport) and Hanna Krall . His productions can be seen at the most important European festivals.

Warlikowski is, despite his homosexuality, with the stage and costume designer Malgorzata Szczęśniak married. Both work closely together professionally and have realized many theater productions together.

Warlikowski 2012 as the winner of the Golden Mask in Moscow, where he was awarded the special jury prize for his production of (A) Pollonia .
