Dan Ettinger
Dan Ettinger ( Hebrew דן אטינגר, Born June 10, 1971 in Cholon , Israel ) is an Israeli conductor . He was general music director at the Nationaltheater Mannheim and the Stuttgart Philharmonic in two roles .
Life
Ettinger began studying the piano at the age of six. After completing his musical training at the Thelma Yellin High School of the Arts in Giv'atajim , he initially worked as a pianist and as a baritone .
In 1993 he won first prize as a baritone at the Francois Shapira Competition and played with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra . From 1995 to 1998 he sang at the Israeli Opera and attended the Rubin Academy of Music in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv University.
From 1999 Ettinger became increasingly active as a conductor. He was choirmaster and assistant conductor , soon afterwards conductor in residence at the New Israeli Opera. He conducted Don Pasquale , L'italiana in Algeri , Don Giovanni , Die Zauberflöte , Norma , La traviata , Die Fledermaus , Carmen , Tosca , La Belle Hélène , Nabucco , Eugen Onegin and Aida . From 2002 to 2003 Ettinger Principal Guest Conductor of the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, with which he was Solennelle Petite Messe by Gioachino Rossini and Giuseppe Verdi's Messa da Requiem brought to the performance. He was accompanied by Daniel Barenboim as conductor and assistant to the general music director of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin brought. During the 2003/2004 season he conducted works such as Turandot , L'Elisir d'Amore , Le nozze di Figaro , La traviata and La Bohème . In 2004/05 he made his US debut with Aida at the Los Angeles Opera. This was followed by Così fan tutte with the New National Theater Tokyo and concerts with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra and Rigoletto at the Hamburg State Opera .
In 2005/06 Ettinger was chief conductor of the Israel Symphony Orchestra. In addition to guest conducting at the Bavarian State Opera , the New York Metropolitan Opera , the Staatsoper Unter den Linden and the Opéra Bastille Paris, he was also chief conductor of the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra in 2010. In autumn 2010 he made his debut with Rigoletto at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London. From 2009 to 2016 Ettinger was the general music director at the Nationaltheater Mannheim. Among other things, he conducted the new production of Wagner's Ring des Nibelungen there .
Ettinger made his debut with the Munich Philharmonic in February 2015. In summer 2015 he conducted the Vienna Philharmonic for the first time at the Salzburg Festival , where Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro was performed .
Since October 2015 he has been general music director and chief conductor of the Stuttgart Philharmonic. He conducted his inaugural concert on October 6, 2015 in the Beethovensaal of the Liederhalle Stuttgart.
