Frank Hilbrich

Frank Hilbrich (born December 30, 1968 in Bremen ) is a German theater and opera director .

Life

Frank Hilbrich gained his first theater experience in the youth club of the Bremen theater under acting director Günter Krämer , and in 1988 at Radio Bremen as an actor in an ARD TV production. After high school and community service he became assistant director at the Hamburg State Opera , at the Bregenz Festival , at the Bremen Theater and from 1993 at the Stuttgart State Opera under director Klaus Zehelein . He was shaped by the collaboration with the directors Ruth Berghaus , Jürgen Gosch and especially with Hans Neuenfels .

From 1999 to 2002 Hilbrich was senior director and deputy opera director at the Schwerin State Theater . He has been working as a freelancer since 2002, staging on numerous stages in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Directing work has taken him to the Bregenz Festival, the Theater Basel , the National Theater Mannheim , the Theater Bremen, the Stuttgart Opera, the Komische Oper Berlin , the Aalto-Theater Essen and the Dresden Semperoper . A long-term collaboration connects him with the Freiburg Theater (where, among other things, Wagner's complete “Ring des Nibelungen” was created) and the Hanover State Opera . Hilbrich last staged the world premiere of Giorgio Battistelli's “Lot” based on a libretto by Jenny Erpenbeck there in April 2017 .

From 2006 to 2013 Hilbrich was a lecturer at Frontstage at the Basel Music Academy .

Since the 2013/14 academic year, he has been a permanent professor in the singing / music theater course at the Berlin University of the Arts .
