Aron Stiehl (born January 18, 1969 in Wiesbaden ) is a German opera director .

Life

Aron Stiehl studied musical theater directing in Hamburg under the direction of Professor Götz Friedrich at the University of Music and Theater (1989–1996). He graduated with honors, became assistant director to Peter Konwitschny and then director at the Bavarian State Opera (1996–2001). During this time, directing assistants followed, especially under Richard Jones.

Aron Stiehl has been working as a freelance director since 2001. The productions of the director, who now lives in Berlin, are characterized by the connection between the German directorial theater and the English directorial style. Modernity and faithfulness to the work are combined in his work. Since then, engagements have taken him both at home and abroad: Sir Peter Jonas has repeatedly signed him to the Bavarian State Opera - for Dido and Aeneas (2001) and Medusa (2005). In Tel Aviv , his production of Abduction from the Seraglio (2007), for which Zubin Mehta had engaged him, attracted a lot of attention . In addition, Aron Stiehl was hired by Zubin Mehta to direct Götterdämmerung , which he staged with La Fura dels Baus for Florence and Valencia (2009). In November 2019 he was presented as the successor to Florian Scholz as artistic director of the Klagenfurt City Theater .
