Roland Schwab (director)

Roland Schwab (born December 13, 1969 in Saint-Cloud ) is a German music theater director.

Life

Roland Schwab grew up in Munich. Since 1992 he has been studying music theater directing in Hamburg under Götz Friedrich . During his studies, assistants took him to the Hamburg State Opera, the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Zurich Opera House. He worked u. a. together with Götz Friedrich, Harry Kupfer and Ruth Berghaus . In 1996 he graduated with Le Roi Berenger of Henry Suter champion from the Forum Hamburg. From 1998 to 2002 he was assistant director at the Meininger Theater , where he has been senior director since 2002. His productions of Cosi fan tutte and Le nozze di Figaro were created at the Meininger Theater . Since 2003 he has been a freelance director at, among others, the Münster theaters ( Pariser Leben ), the Freiburg Theater ( Lucia di Lammermoor ), the Niederbayerisches Landestheater ( Orlando furioso ), the Biel Solothurn Theater ( Orlando ), the Musiktheater im Revier , Gelsenkirchen ( Aida ), the Tiroler Landestheater , Innsbruck ( Romeo et Juliette ), the Landestheater Linz ( Manon ), the Anhaltisches Theater Dessau ( A Masked Ball ), the Dortmund Opera ( The Rake's Progress ), the Bonn Opera ( La Sonnambula ). An important collaboration connects him with the music theater dramaturge Christian Baier , with whom he developed the Mozart Fragments project at the Deutsche Oper Berlin for the Mozart Year 2006 . The productions Tiefland by Eugen d'Albert and Don Giovanni (2010) were also produced at the Deutsche Oper .
