Ilesha is a city in the Nigerian state of Osun and is located in the southwest of Nigeria. According to an estimate from 2007, it has 305,480 inhabitants. In agglomeration Ileshas about 647,500 people live.

Ilesha was the center of a historical kingdom that was founded around 1500 and included several smaller cities in addition to Ilesha. The king of Ilesha is called Owa Obokun . Owa has been Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran II since 1982 , but he has only nominal power. According to legend, the city was founded by one of the 16 sons of Oduduwa , the ancestor of the Yoruba . This makes it one of the oldest Yoruba settlements.

Ilesha and its surroundings form two of the 30 Local Government Areas (LGA) of the state of Osun, which together have an area of ​​134.40 km². In the penultimate census in 1991, both LGA had 139,445 inhabitants and thus a population density of 1038 inhabitants per km².
