TM Aluko

Timothy Mofolorunso Aluko (born June 14, 1918 in Ilesha , Osun State , Nigeria , † May 1, 2010 in Lagos , Lagos State , Nigeria) was a Nigerian writer . He was best known as the author of short stories and novels in the English language, and was particularly praised for his satirical style. Accompanied by great public interest, Aluko published his last book Our Born Again President in 2009 , 50 years after his first novel was published.

Life

TM Aluko was born into a polygamous family that was nonetheless based on Christian values. After attending the church-run Holy Trinity School in Amofe and Government College in Ibadan , he studied at Yaba Higher College, the Imperial College of Science and Technology in London and the University of Newcastle upon Tyne . As a trained civil engineer, he entered the Nigerian administration and rose to the position of Director of Public Works of the former region of West Nigeria. After leaving the administration he concentrated on an academic career and taught a.o. a. at the University of Lagos .

In 1987 Aluko suffered a stroke and has been partially paralyzed since then. It is reported that he was a fighter and taught himself to write with his left hand because he could no longer move his right hand.

Aluko was married, his wife Bisi died in 1996. One of his sons is the actor Tayo Aluko.
