Ilias Kasidiaris

Ilias Kasidiaris ( Greek Ηλίας Κασιδιάρης , born November 29, 1980 in Piraeus ) is the spokesman for the neo-Nazi Greek party Chrysi Avgi . From the parliamentary elections in Greece in May 2012 he was a member of the Greek parliament until 2019 .

Life

Kasidiari's father claimed to have raised him to be a proud Hellenic and read to him the adventures of Heracles as a child .

Ilias Kasidiaris studied food chemistry at the Agricultural University of Athens and is a trained hand-to-hand combat expert for an elite army unit . He did his military service in Cyprus.

In 2004 Kasidiaris advertised the White Aryan Resistance in the Chrysí Avgí youth magazine .

In 2012 Ilias Kasidiaris ran as a candidate for the Attica administrative district .

In March 2013 Kasidiaris gathered with 500 supporters of the party in front of the TV channel Mega TV to protest against the broadcast of a Turkish series on Greece's Independence Day . At the end of the event, he and other MPs threw eggs and yogurt at the building and burned a Turkish flag.

In June 2013, the video portal blocked the Kasidiaris channel. Youtube stated that Kasidiaris had violated the laws of Greece.

In 2014 Kasidiaris applied for the office of Mayor of Athens . He got 16.1% of the vote on May 18th.

Political positions

In an interview, Kasidiaris said history had proven that the death of six million Jews was a lie. He also called for the deportation of all migrants from Greece and minefields on the Greek-Turkish border .

On the occasion of the “ Führer birthday ”, he published an article in the Chrysí Avgí party newspaper on April 20, 2011 in which he described Adolf Hitler as a “key figure in the history of the 20th century” and National Socialism as a “renewal movement”.

In an article for the party organ of the "Chrysi Avgi" he praised the Greek military dictatorship .

Ilias Kasidiaris joined the party's call to set up a blood bank for Greek citizens only. However, the Association of Greek Hospital Doctors contradicted the proposal and stated that the blood was given to all people, even if they were not Greeks.

At a party event, Kasidiaris announced: "Our goal is to put down those who work for the Jews and who have turned our country into a rude protectorate of foreign powers."

In October 2012, during an ongoing parliamentary debate on Giorgos Andrea Papandreou from the PASOK party, Kasidiaris said that he was “only 25% Greek”. In addition, he quoted in Parliament from the anti-Semitic pamphlet Protocols of the Elders of Zion .

In June 2013, Kasidiaris announced in a parliamentary session that he did not believe in the Holocaust. Kasidiaris has a swastika tattoo the size of a fist on his left arm.

Assault, assault and criminal proceedings

Kasidiaris was charged with participating in an armed attack on an Athens university professor in 2007. Because of his election to the Greek Parliament, the process was suspended. His immunity as a parliamentarian was lifted by the Greek parliament in October 2012. He was acquitted in March 2013.

Kasidiaris caused a scandal in a live broadcast in June 2012 when he attacked the two parliamentarians Liana Kanelli and Rena Dourou and hit one of them several times. To calm him down, some helpers locked him up in a room on the television station. However, the 31-year-old former soldier of a special unit of the Greek armed forces broke the door and fled. The police started their search for him and the public prosecutor immediately issued an arrest warrant . Kasidiaris was already being prosecuted for illegal possession of weapons and complicity in a robbery . The party refused to condemn Kasidiaris' derailment. Kanelli attacked first, the party said and called for a condemnation of the insults previously fallen. Kasidiaris sued the television station ANT1 , the two women and another interviewee of the talk show. The Greek parliament lifted Kasidiari's immunity again in March 2013. A court in Athens acquitted Kasidiaris on March 6, 2015, on charges of serious bodily harm. Prosecution for minor bodily harm would have been possible if the victim had filed a criminal complaint that had not met the deadline.

During a meeting of the Chrysí Avgí on the island of Crete in late November 2012, Kasidiaris threatened police officers and counter-demonstrators. The incident was documented with a video camera.

On September 28th, Kasidiaris and other high-ranking party members were arrested for forming a criminal organization. In addition, further arrest warrants were issued against five other parliamentarians who are wanted by an anti-terrorist unit. Kasidiaris was released shortly after his arrest but had to pay a bail of 50,000 euros and is not allowed to leave the country.

In October 2013, Kasidiaris hit a journalist's camera.

Kasidiaris' parliamentary immunity was again lifted in March 2014.
