Ilija Stanić (born October 19, 1945 in Čolopeci near Konjic , Yugoslavia ) is a former agent of the Yugoslav secret police . He is the alleged murderer of the former Ustasha -Generals and concentration camp commanders Vjekoslav "Maks" Luburić .

Life

Stanić was the son of a Ustaše fighter who was killed in a military operation against Yugoslavia in 1951. Stanić lived in Yugoslavia until 1966 before settling in Francoist Spain after brief stays in France and Germany . Until April 20, 1969, he worked in the press office of Luburić's right-wing extremist Croatian emigre organization Hrvatski narodni odpor (Croatian Popular Resistance) in Carcaixent ( Valencia Province ). Stanić disappeared that day after Luburić was knocked down there with an iron bar and then stabbed. Interpol's search for him as a suspected perpetrator was unsuccessful.

He is said to have been appointed head of a hotel in Split by the Yugoslav authorities for the murder . In 2003, journalist Francesc Bayarri interviewed him in Sarajevo , where he lives as a retired civil servant, and published this interview in his book Cita en Sarajevo . Stanić has neither confirmed nor denied whether he is Luburić's murderer. In 2009, Stanić gave an exclusive interview to the Croatian weekly Globus , in which he described the exact course of the murder and regretted his participation in it.

The Serbian secret service BIA has denied any connection between the Yugoslav secret service and the numerous liquidation commands and direct orders from Tito to this day and refuses to hand over the files. This also prevents clarifications about further killings, z. B. to Jakov “Jaša” Ljotić (1895–1974), the brother of the Serbian fascist leader Dimitrije Ljotić in Munich.
