Ilya Brener

Ilja Brener (born September 28, 1989 in Moscow ) is a German chess player .

Life

The family moved to Berlin in 1992 . Brener learned the rules of chess at the age of five and joined his first club in 1995. He was trained by Holger Borchers, IM Jakob Meister and GM Sergei Kalinitschew .

In November 2003 he won the 1st youth championship of the European Union in Graz in the U14 category. In July 2004 he won the European Championship in Belgrade with the German U18 national team , receiving an individual gold medal for his score of 3.5 out of 5 on the first reserve board. In April 2005 he became German Internet Champion U18. At the U18 European Championship in July 2006 in Balatonlelle , he was third with the German national team. Here he received an individual silver medal for his score of 4.5 out of 6 on the fourth board. He took part in the Mitropa Cup three times with the German national team (2005, 2006 and 2007), with the team winning a bronze medal in Szeged in 2007 . He was a member of the C-squad of the German national team.

As a youth, Brener played at six Berlin clubs, most recently at SV "Glück Auf" Rüdersdorf in the 2nd Bundesliga North. In the 2007/08 season he played in the German Federal Chess League at SK Zehlendorf . Since the 2013/14 season he has been playing for TuS Makkabi Berlin , initially in the Berlin state league, and in the 2015/16 season in the Oberliga Nord.

Since June 2007 he has held the title of International Master. He achieved the standards for this in April 2004 at an IM tournament in Prague , in August 2006 at the First Saturday IM-B tournament in Budapest and in September 2006 at the Mitropa Cup in Brno . Its Elo rating is 2401 (as of September 2018), its highest rating so far was 2423 in April 2008.
