Ilja Leonard Pfeijffer (born January 17, 1968 in Rijswijk ) is a Dutch writer and poet. He studied, lived and worked in Leiden until he moved to Genoa in 2008 , where he lives today.

biography

Pfeijffer made his debut in 1998 with a collection “Van de Vierkante Man”, which contained fifty highly independent poems. With this debut he won the 1999 C. Buddingh 'prijs.

In addition to his work as a poet, Pfeijffer was for some time a teacher and lecturer in Classical Greek at the University of Leiden . He wrote his dissertation on the poetic work of Pindar and published a textbook on the history of classical literature. In 2014 he won the Libris Literature Prize for his novel La Superba , while his collection of poems Idyllen won the VSB Poetry Prize in 2016 , the Jan Campert Prize in 2015 and the Awater Poetry Prize .
