The Ilkahöhe is a 726 m high elevation on the west bank of Lake Starnberg , above the hamlet of Oberzeismering, southwest of Tutzing . It was in the Würm from Würm glacier formed and is a remnant of one of its lateral moraines . Due to its exposed location, the Ilkahöhe is a popular vantage point. On a clear day, the alpine panorama can be seen from the Zugspitze to the Chiemgau Alps .

origin of the name

The Ilkahöhe got its name in honor of Princess Ilka von Wrede , who had received a number of Bavarian and Prussian awards in the war of 1870/71 through her work as an aid to the wounded .

Former temple

A little below the actual Ilkahöhe, a temple in honor of Eduard von Hallberger stood in a small wood from the late 19th century . The temple was built by Hallberger's daughter Gabriele Countess Landberg "for everlasting memory" after Hallberger's death. The architect of the temple was the civil engineer Engelbert Schnell . The temple, which contained a bronze bust of Hallberger, was badly damaged and eventually demolished in the 1970s.

Well

The Ilkahöhe belongs to a farm of the same name , which is extensively active in agriculture and forestry and owns hunting rights. At the end of the 19th century, when the estate was expanded, some of the existing old farmhouses were demolished, so that today Oberzeismering consists almost entirely of the estate. The former forester's house Ilkahöhe is no longer used for forestry operations, but is operated as an excursion restaurant with a beer garden .

Next to the former forester's house is the cath. Filial church St. Nikolaus with cemetery where Benno Sterzenbach is buried.
