The Illinois State Route 33 (in short IL 33 is) a State Route in the State of Illinois .

The State Route begins on Illinois State Route 128 west of Beecher City and ends 156 kilometers west of Vincennes on US Highway 50 .

course

From Beecher City the IL 33 runs in an easterly direction and from Shumway it runs together with State Route 32 to Effingham . In the northwest of the city they meet the route of Interstates 57 and 70 . In the center of the city, the IL 32 ends on US Highway 40 and the IL 33 uses the route of the US 40 with Fayette Avenue . It also meets US Highway 45 and leaves Effingham in a south-easterly direction.

In the east of Newton , the state route 130 is used for about five kilometers and in the north of Willow Hill the Illinois State Route 49 branches off to the north. East of the intersection with State Route 1 , it passes Robinson Municipal Airport to the north and from the town of Palestine the IL 33 runs south parallel to the Wabash River , the border river to Indiana. In the north of Vincennes it first crosses under US Highway 50, which is developed as a freeway in this section. From the Lincoln Trail State Memorial it uses the former route of the US 50 and leads in a north-westerly direction to an exit from the highway.

history

In 1918 the IL 33 connected the places Effingham and Gordon near Robinson. After 19 years, the route was extended in 1937 in the east to Palestine on the route of the former State Route 163 . In 1941 there was a western extension to Beecher City. In 1948, Illinois State Route 33 was added to a section between Palestine and US Highway 50 west of Vincennes. After the construction of the US 50 as a freeway bypass, it leads on the route of the former US highway to the exit north of today's Lincoln Trail State Memorial.
