Effingham is a city and county seat of Effingham County in the southeastern center of the US -amerikanischen state of Illinois . In 2000 Effingham had 12,384 residents; by the 2009 estimate, the population had risen to 12,557.
Effingham is 153 km from St. Louis , 64 km from Terre Haute , 114 km from Champaign , and 94 km from the metropolitan area of Mt. Vernon .
history
In the area of what is now Effingham, the first pioneers settled along the Little Wabash River around 1814 . However, the city only experienced significant growth and economic boom in the 1850s with the construction of the railway there. In 1859 Effingham was raised to the county seat .

Events
Effingham annual "Corvette Funfest" on the grounds of the place on a weekend in September Mid America Motorworks Inc. instead. In recent years, up to 14,000 Corvette enthusiasts including their vehicles have been present. The visitors and also the participants came from most of the states of the USA and several countries, including Germany , France , Belgium and the Czech Republic .
