Ilmo Ranta

Ilmo Ranta (* 1956 ) is a Finnish pianist and song accompanist .

Live and act

Ilmo Ranta was trained at the Sibelius Academy with Liisa Pohjola and in Munich with Klaus Schilde. He also received lessons from György Sebök, Dmitri Bashkirov , Ralf Gothóni and Hartmut Höll . In addition to his solo appearances, he became known as a chamber musician and song accompanist . His song partners include Karita Mattila , Monica Groop , Jorma Hynninen and Petteri Salomaa. As an interpreter of contemporary music, he has premiered works by many Finnish composers.

His discography includes recordings for BIS Records and for the Finnish label Ondine . Ilmo Ranta teaches piano, chamber music and song accompaniment at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki . For the album Sydän Suomessa , recorded together with Karita Mattila , he received a gold record in Finland in 1999 .
