Ilse-Maria Dorfstecher

Ilse-Maria Dorfstecher (born January 27, 1932 in Dömitz ; † March 14, 2020 in Berlin ) was a German gallery owner , curator and author who ran the Inselgalerie Berlin from 1994 to 2017 and was committed to promoting female artists.

Life

After studying theater studies and German at the Humboldt University in Berlin , Ilse-Maria Dorfstecher initially worked as a radio director . This was followed by a freelance work as an author for art, theater and literature exhibitions and until 1990 she headed the poster archive of the Association of Visual Artists of the GDR . Led by their archives included more than 30,000 posters and posters .

In 1993 Ilse-Maria Dorfstecher founded the Xanthippe association . From 1994 to 2017 she ran the Inselgalerie Berlin on a voluntary basis. Under her direction, more than 600 artists from Germany and abroad exhibited, and she organized readings and discussions.

Ilse-Maria Dorfstecher was married to the graphic and stamp artist Dietrich Dorfstecher (1933–2011) and lived in Berlin-Grünau until her death .
