Sophie Marie Ilse Helling-Rosenthal (born February 15, 1886 in Leipzig ; † March 23, 1939 there ) was a German singer and singing teacher .

Ilse Helling was the daughter of the Leipzig merchant Traugott Iwan Helling and his wife Helene, nee. Schmidt. She received her vocal training at the Royal Conservatory for Music in Leipzig with Marie Hedmondt in the soprano range . After completing her studies, she mainly appeared as a song and oratorio singer .

On June 8, 1914, she married the doctor and singer Wolfgang Rosenthal in Leipzig , with whom she founded the Rosenthal Vocal Quartet in 1919, which performed with great success throughout Europe under Arthur Nikisch and Wilhelm Furtwängler .

Until her death, Ilse Helling-Rosenthal taught singing at the Leipzig Conservatory. Her students included Erna Hähnel, Marie Käthe Herre, Philine Fischer , Anny Quistorp, Lotte Wolf-Matthäus and her daughter Hella Ebert-Rosenthal.

Ilse Helling-Rosenthal died of the consequences of a flu epidemic that was rampant in Leipzig . She was buried in the Südfriedhof in Leipzig. Felix Pfeifer created her tomb .
