Ilse Hollweg

Ilse Hollweg (born February 23, 1922 in Siegburg ; † February 9, 1990 in Solingen ) was a German opera singer ( coloratura soprano ).

Life

Hollweg received her vocal training at the Cologne University of Music with Gertrude Förstel . Ilse Hollweg made her debut in Saarbrücken in 1943 at the State Theater there . In 1946 she became the first coloratura soprano at the Düsseldorf Opera House . From 1951 to 1952 she performed in Berlin and Hamburg, and in 1952 she sang at the Vienna State Opera . Ilse Hollweg performed as a lieder singer together with the pianist Sebastian Peschko .

In 1950 and again in 1954 she had great success at the Glyndebourne Festival as Zerbinetta in Ariadne on Naxos . From 1955 to 1970 she was part of the ensemble of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf-Duisburg. She gave further appearances at the Salzburg Festival and the Bayreuth Festival , where she took over the "voice of the forest bird" in Siegfried . She has appeared as a guest at all major German opera houses, including La Scala in Milan and the Royal Opera House in London. In later years, chamber singer Ilse Hollweg mainly worked as a singing teacher at the Alanus University of Art and Society .
