Ilse Kassel (born June 9, 1902 in Berlin , † September 20, 1943 in Alt Gurkowschbruch ) was a German doctor and resistance fighter against the Nazi regime .

Life

After studying medicine , she first worked as an assistant doctor in Berlin and then took over the medical practice of her father Woldemar Kassel. Due to her Jewish origins, her health insurance license was revoked in 1933 and her license to practice medicine in 1938 at the time of National Socialism. She belonged to the SPD until this party was banned. She was arrested in 1936 for membership in a communist resistance group. Their daughter Edith was born during her captivity. After her release, she initially worked as a nurse and later as a forced laborer in the armaments industry. Because of increasing anti-Jewish persecution by the Nazi regime, mother and daughter finally hid on the farm of a former patient. After they had to flee from there due to a denunciation , Ilse Kassel decided to take her own life. She and her daughter took an overdose of pills. Ilse Kassel drowned in the Netze , but her daughter survived and was gassed in the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp .

Today a stumbling block in Wachsmuthstraße 9 in Berlin-Hermsdorf reminds of them . The parliamentary groups of the Greens and the SPD of BVV Reinickendorf requested on January 12, 2010: “The district office is requested to locate the so-called Schloßplatz in Berlin-Hermsdorf between Schloß-, Wachsmuth- and Auguste-Viktoria-Straße after Dr. To name Ilse Kassel ”. The official naming of the place took place on September 28, 2012.
