Ilya Salkind

Ilya Salkind (born July 27, 1947 in Mexico City , Mexico ) is an international film producer .

Life

The son of the film producer Alexander Salkind came to film through his father and got his first job as an errand boy for the large-scale production Cervantes - The King's Adventurer . In 1968 he stood in front of the camera with a small role at the side of the two veteran Hollywood stars Robert Taylor and Charles Boyer in the Cold War and agent film " Le ruble à deux faces ".

At the beginning of the 1970s, Salkind junior was employed under the direction of his father as a production manager and was involved in international co-productions with a large cast of stars (including Kirk Douglas , Yul Brynner , Richard Burton , Stephen Boyd ) from the start. A particular success was granted to him in 1973/74 with the production of Richard Lester's two famous film adaptations of the Three Musketeers , The Three Musketeers and The Four Musketeers - The Revenge of My Lady.

In 1977 Ilya started the box-office Superman series with Christopher Reeve at the side of his father Alexander and Pierre Spenglers . Ilya Salkind's most ambitious project was the film Christopher Columbus - The Explorer with Marlon Brando in a supporting supporting role in 1992 on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the (re) discovery of America by Columbus . After that, Ilya Salkind remained active in films until well into the new millennium and only returned to the cinema in 2010 with a large-scale production revolving around a historical personality, this time Alexander the Great .

Ilya Salkind was married to the American actress Skye Aubrey (* 1945) and to Charlie Chaplin's daughter Jane Chaplin (* 1957), who had worked in Salkind's Columbus film. He has a son named Alexis with another wife.
