Pierre Spengler (born June 5, 1947 in Paris , France ) is an international French film producer .

Life

Spengler began his artistic career when he joined the theater at the age of 15. He then went to the Alliance française as a young adult to conduct language studies. He began his film career in 1964 as an errand boy. Over the next six years, the Parisian got to know the industry from the bottom up and was successively employed as assistant director , assistant editor and, most recently, as production assistant for ambitious A-productions such as Die Irre von Chaillot and Le Mans .

In 1970, the experienced film producer Alexander Salkind brought him to his side and used him as a production assistant in the international star production Das Licht am Ende der Welt with Kirk Douglas and Yul Brynner in the leading roles. Salkind's son Ilya , only a few weeks younger than Pierre, was one of three producers on this film . With Alexander and Ilya Salkind, Spengler has since made a number of very lavish, costly and multinational films, including the two turbulent and successful film adaptations of the Three Musketeers by Richard Lester , The Three Musketeers (1973) and The Four Musketeers - The Revenge of the Milady (1974). In 1977 the Salkinds and Spengler initiated the initially extremely box office-hugging Superman film series with Christopher Reeve in the title role.

In the mid-1980s, Spengler and Salkind parted ways. In 1988 he still produced a Musketeer fold-out, but it turned out to be not nearly as successful as the first two Lester adaptations. In the 1990s Spengler went to the Balkans and made several internationally produced and artistically ambitious films such as Underground and Golden Valley Sarajevo in the Yugoslav successor states . Spengler's later productions, which were also often made in the Balkans for cost reasons, were mostly B-films and often had a trash format from the beginning of the new millennium. Through these action-packed fabrics, genre-typical actors like Steven Seagal , Jean-Claude Van Damme and Wesley Snipes fought each other . After 2007, Pierre Spengler can only rarely be proven as a producer.
