Alexander Salkind (film producer)

Alexander Salkind ( Russian Александр Михайлович Залкинд ; born June 2, 1921 in Free City of Danzig , today Gdańsk Poland ; † March 8, 1997 in Neuilly-sur-Seine , Hauts-de-Seine , Île-de-France , France ) was a Russian-Mexican film producer .

Salkind, son of the Russian film producer and screenwriter Michail Salkind , grew up in Berlin , later lived in Cuba and Mexico and became a Mexican citizen. He then lived for a short time in the USA and later in France, Italy and Switzerland.

In the 1960s and 1970s in particular, Salkind was in demand as a producer of major European films with international cast, including the 1961 film Der Raub der Sabinerinnen . In 1992 he produced the historical film Christopher Columbus - The Explorer .

His two most famous works, however, were The Three Musketeers in 1973 and Superman in 1978 .

His son Ilya Salkind was also a filmmaker.
