Image fulgurator
Image Fulgurator (Latin for flash thrower) is a device with which a projection (initially unnoticed) can be mapped onto an object that has just been photographed. It is a projector that is only activated briefly during the recording (via flash ) .
The development was awarded the Prix Ars Electronica in 2008 . In February 2009, the developer Julius von Bismarck performed his invention at the CCCB in Barcelona during the art festival The Influencers . In 2007 a patent was granted for the device.
functionality
The Image Fulgurator enables objects that are photographed with a conventional camera and flash light to be provided with any motif - initially unnoticed by the photographer.
It consists of a flash and a modified camera , the lens of which is used as a projection lens . The flash, together with a stencil containing the subject to be projected, a gobo (or a developed slide film), is attached where the film plane of the camera normally lies. The device detects the triggering of the photographer's photo flash by means of a sensor and reacts to this with its own flash (function similar to that of an optically triggered unleashed flash or daughter flash ), which projects the motif on the targeted object through the template. The Image Fulgurator's flash is triggered so quickly that the projected motif is captured by the photographer's camera when the camera shutter is only opened briefly - while the eyes of those present are so distracted by the photographer's flash that before Place the projection remains inconspicuous.
Application in practice
The device (called the apparatus for manipulating photographs) is used by its developer as a tool in the hands of an artist .
During a speech by US President Barack Obama projected by Bismarck a cross to the lectern of the President. In photographs by Klaus Wowereit , the Mayor of Berlin can be seen with the logo of the mobile operator O2 on his lapel . The artist also made the symbol of a white dove of peace appear in the picture of the former Chinese dictator Mao Zedong in Tian'anmen Square in the photos of unsuspecting passers-by. During an exhibition at Madame Tussauds, Bismarck managed to project a phallic symbol onto the visitors' photographs.
