Snack bar

As a snack bar (old spelling snack bar , colloquially also snack bar ) in Austria various restaurants for faster meals are combined.

They are catering establishments that are similar in furnishings and fittings to a restaurant . However, they are usually much smaller in size. The selection of food and drinks offered is extensive. Snack bars are intended for a group of customers who want to consume snacks or small meals during a relatively short period of time . It is characteristic that one usually does not consume multi-course meals .

Snack bars differ from the larger fast-food restaurant and the small snack stand . They represent a more modern mode of operation and an alternative to fast food . In snack bars today, lunch is also taken, which is no longer a main meal in a changed urban way of life. The snack bars include, for example, various specialty restaurants from local or foreign country kitchens, such as direct consumption in fish shops , bistros (which can also have the character of a coffee restaurant ), sushi bars , taco restaurants (which can also be real restaurants ).

A distinction must be made between the snack bar and terms such as snack bar (these fall under the operating form of buffet or bar , i.e. a night club) or cafeteria (which in Austria refers to a coffee house , i.e. a form of serving with a limited range of dishes, or canteens and canteens ).

Snack bars are one of the more basic types of operation according to Section 111 (5) of the Trade Regulations . The permitted opening times are usually between 6:00 a.m. and 12:00 a.m. (state law).
