from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Imran ( Arabic عمران, DMG ʿImrān ) is a masculine Arabic given name . For more on the origin and meaning of the name, see Amram . In Turkey , the form İmran occurs as a male and female first name.

Imran in the Koran

Sura 66 : 12 of the Koran refers the name in the Arabic spelling 'Imrān to the father of Maryam , which does not mean Mirjam, but Maria, the mother of Jesus . There he is therefore the grandfather Isa ibn Maryam ( Jesus of Nazareth ), who is called Joachim in the Protevangelium of James .

In Sura 3 : 33 the “family of Amram” ( Āl ʿImrān ) is placed alongside the “family of Abraham” ( Āl Ibrāhīm ) as a family chosen by God . Since the "Amram clan" is one of the main subjects of the sura, it was given the name Āl ʿImrān .
