at-Tahrim

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

At-Tahrim ( Arabic التحريم at-Taḥrīm  'The Prohibition') is the 66th sura of the Koran , it contains 12 verses . Their title refers to the first verse.

It was announced in Medina . Its various sections date from the later years after the emigration and apparently relate to difficulties that arose in the family of Mohammed , in particular to disputes between Hafsa and Aisha . Verse 4 is one of only three passages from the Koran in which the Archangel Gabriel is mentioned by name. The wife of Noah and the wife of Lot are given as examples of the attitude of the unbelievers in verse 10 . As examples for the attitude of the believers appear in verses 11 and 12 the wife of Pharaoh and Mary , the mother of Jesus , who is here called "daughter of Imran ".
