In den Grüben (or the Grüben ) is a street in Burghausen in the Upper Bavarian district of Altötting .

The street runs in the old town below the castle hill between Burghausen Castle and the Salzach from the town square to Mautnerstraße. The Am Bichl square is roughly in the middle .

Most of the buildings are classified as historical monuments, including the Mautnerschloss .

history

The pits are divided into lower and upper pits by the confluence of the Messerzeile on the Bichl . The pit was mentioned in a document in 1333 as a Grueb . From 1896 to 1938 it was called Herzog-Georg-Straße before the historical name was reintroduced. The buildings are almost exclusively craft houses from the 15th to 19th centuries. It was regularly flooded by floods from the Salzach until a bank wall was built in the course of the old town renovation in 1969/70. In addition, a road was laid out on the new protective wall (the Salzlände ), which separates the buildings on the banks of the Salzach and has since relieved the medieval lane from traffic. Today all traffic has been relocated to the Uferstraße, the pits are a pedestrian zone .

At the Bichl

About in the middle of the pit is a small square that was created in the 19th century when two houses were demolished. The path from the Grüben to the Messerzeile, which joins here, was still called Gasteig around 1414 , passage on Ruepp around 1560 , and Baron-Huber-Gässchen around 1700 , before the name Büchl or Am Bichl became established . The square in front of it was created in 1860 when the so-called Upper Meat Banks and the City Dance House were demolished . 1896 was here the war memorial built and the place Obeliskenplatz called. In 1969, however, the square was also named Am Bichl .

Street of Fame

In the entire course of the pit there are cast plates embedded in the floor, which bear the names, signatures and life dates of selected musicians who were guests at the Burghausen International Jazz Week , which has been taking place since 1970 - the so-called Street of Fame .
