Ioannis Mylonopoulos

Ioannis Mylonopoulos (* 1971 ; Greek Ιωάννης Μυλωνόπουλος ) is a Greek classical archaeologist .

Ioannis Mylonopoulos studied at the University of Athens and the University of Heidelberg . In 2001 he was born in Heidelberg with the work Πελοπόννησος οἰκητήριον Ποσειδῶνος. Sanctuaries and Cults of Poseidon in the Peloponnese did his doctorate with Tonio Hölscher and was a short-term assistant in Heidelberg in 2002, then assistant at the University of Vienna , Junior Professor at the University of Erfurt and Fellow at the Harvard Center for Hellenic Studies . Since 2008 he has been an Associate Professor in the Department of Art History and Archeology at Columbia University in New York . From 1999 to 2008 he was co-editor of the Epigraphic Bulletin for Greek Religion . He is a member of the Archaeological Society of Athens .

Mylonopoulos took part in excavations in Zominthos and Eleutherna in Greece, in Aphrodisias in Turkey and in Ladenburg in Germany. Since 2014 he has been director of the excavation at the sanctuary of Poseidon in Onchestus in Boeoti . He deals with Greek idols, Greek cults, shrines and rites, Greek coroplasty and Greek epigraphy .
